Luxury Mahjong, Reimagined: Welcome to the World of Salt Ivory
Mahjong has always been about more than the game.
It is the familiar sound of tiles meeting the table. A standing date among friends. A drink poured before the first Charleston. The conversations that continue long after the final hand.
It is ritual, competition, hospitality and connection all gathered around one table.
At Salt Ivory, we believe the objects surrounding those moments should be just as memorable.
A New Point of View on Luxury Mahjong
Salt Ivory is a luxury mahjong and entertaining brand inspired by timeless design, beautiful destinations and the art of gathering.
We created Salt Ivory with a simple philosophy: the things we use often deserve to be beautiful.
Rather than treating mahjong tiles, mahjong accessories and game-night essentials as objects to pack away when the game is finished, we imagine pieces worthy of becoming part of the home itself.
Objects designed to be played.
Beautiful enough to be displayed.
Special enough to be remembered.
Inspired by Places That Stay With You
Every Salt Ivory collection begins with a sense of place.
A coastline glimpsed from a terrace. The faded stripes of a beach umbrella. Sun-warmed stone. An old hotel lobby. The deep green of a garden after rain. A beautifully set table waiting for its guests.
Travel has a way of leaving behind details we remember long after we've returned home.
Salt Ivory translates those details into original artwork, considered materials and luxury mahjong accessories designed to bring that same sense of discovery to the table.
Our debut collection, Palma Volume I, takes its inspiration from the Mediterranean — lush coastal landscapes, warm evenings, old-world architecture and the effortless elegance of places that never seem to try too hard.
It is less about recreating a destination and more about capturing the feeling of being there.
The Return of the Game Table
There is something wonderfully old-fashioned about gathering around a table simply because you want to.
No screens required. No agenda. No reason to rush.
Perhaps that's part of mahjong's enduring appeal.
The game creates an occasion out of an ordinary afternoon and gives people a reason to gather again next week.
As mahjong finds a new generation of players, we believe there is an opportunity to reconsider the world surrounding the game, too.
The mat beneath the tiles.
The objects beside the table.
The pieces you bring to a friend's home.
The accessories that live on a shelf between games.
The details matter because, eventually, they become part of the ritual.
Mahjong Accessories, Considered Differently
We approach modern mahjong accessories with the same attention we would give any object intended for a beautiful home.
Proportion matters.
Material matters.
How something feels in your hand matters.
And so does what it looks like when no one is playing.
Our goal isn't to create more things for the sake of having them.
It is to create better ones.
Pieces that solve a problem elegantly. Pieces that travel well. Pieces you'd happily leave on display. Pieces that make wonderful mahjong gifts because they feel considered rather than expected.
Our first product, The Butler, embodies that philosophy.
The portable mahjong side table was created to give drinks, phones, cards and personal essentials a proper place beside the game, leaving more room for the tiles while helping protect the table and mat.
It is a simple idea.
We simply thought it deserved a beautiful solution.
For Those Who Still Believe in Hosting
Salt Ivory may begin with mahjong, but our world has always been larger than the game.
We love the rituals surrounding entertaining: setting the table, choosing the glassware, opening the doors, pouring something cold and making people feel as though there is nowhere else they need to be.
The best gatherings rarely feel overly planned.
They feel effortless.
Of course, anyone who loves to host knows that effortlessness is usually the result of considering every little detail beforehand.
Salt Ivory lives in those details.
A Modern Take on Old-World Leisure
There was a time when card rooms, game tables and afternoon matches were simply part of the rhythm of a well-lived life.
We find ourselves drawn to that sensibility.
Not nostalgia for nostalgia's sake, but an appreciation for things that endure: beautifully made objects, recurring traditions, handwritten invitations, houses filled with people and games that are taught from one generation to the next.
Our interpretation is decidedly modern.
We call it Old Money Mahjong — not as a rulebook for how something should look, but as a point of view.
Collected rather than decorated.
Timeless rather than trendy.
Understated rather than overdone.
A little coastal. A little traveled. And never too precious to actually use.
Made to Become Part of the Story
The objects we remember most are rarely the ones we were afraid to touch.
They're the serving piece that comes out every holiday.
The game set that has been played hundreds of times.
The table everyone gravitates toward.
The pieces with a story attached to them.
That's what we hope to create at Salt Ivory.
Our collections are designed to move through real life — from homes to holidays, afternoon games to weekends away gathering stories as they go.
Because true luxury isn't simply something beautiful to own.
It's something beautiful enough to use again and again.
Welcome to Salt Ivory
This is only our first hand.
The Butler begins the story, with mahjong tiles, mats, accessories and pieces for the art of entertaining still to come.
Each will be guided by the same philosophy: thoughtful design, beautiful materials, a sense of place and a reverence for the rituals that bring us back to the table.
Because the game may be what gathers us.
But what happens around the table is what we keep.
